South Pacific Aid ACDP

New Zealand has the largest capture of Pacific Island peoples in the world. Project AWHI assists the Pacific as our immediate neighbours. There is tremendous needs in the Pacific, disease such as malaria, leprosy are still serious issues. Poverty and levels of child illiteracy are still high.

Project Vanuatu

Project Vanuatu has presently 3 key focuses.

  • Assistance to Outer Island Community Facilities - Provides facilities for villiage growth and Storm Shelter and Habitation.
  • Child Sponsorship schoolarship grants. Education is not free in Vanuatu and Project AWHI sponsors children to attend school.
  • Slum re-habilitation. On the main island of Efate a large slum community has arisen as outer islanders seek employment. Within this slum, AWHI aims to help with primary Health care, and the Educational needs of the Children. AWHI presently has no funds for this project.

Project AWHI sent a construction Team in April 2002 to start building a Villiage building on the Island of EPI.   Primary Health Care is minimal on the outer islands. AWHI provided a diabetic nurse to run education programmes and consultation to local hospitals.   Project AWHI working in a local villiage hospital.

Presenly AWHI has identified three further projects that currently need funding:

  • Efate Slum rehabilitation
  • Tanna Community Development
  • School Schoolarship
