But God . . .

Written by: Donna Stansell - January 25, 2026

Outside of the warm greetings at the airport, I have to say my first impressions of Uganda on the drive to the hotel were not good. As we drove through the edge of Kampala, the streets were loud and lively. There was a lot of traffic, loud music and the city was full of people with food cooking over open flames. It is hard to describe, but it felt dark.

But God….

Light dispells the darkness and on this Sunday morning, as we pulled up to Gilgal Church, the radiance of God’s glory was streaming through the windows and out the front doors. We joined the celebration and had an action-packed 3 hour service, full of praise and worship, prayers, blessings and messages from Bishop, Pastor Rose, and Stephen.

One of the parishioners, Ramlah, cooked us a delicious lunch that we enjoyed very much. After lunch, we met with the women from the cooperative. They have worked hard and had some success, but did not fully comprehend the structure and organization we use. We explained again and offered encouragement. They are now going to write out their plan and Pastor Rose will bring it and meet with Bishop and some of the women in Kigali who have been successful with the program.

Pastor Rose invited us to her home this evening for dinner. Ramlah cooked fried chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables and served us fresh mango and hot tea. Some of the women from the church were there as well. We are full - in body and in spirit!
