Uganda Reunion

Written by: Liz Henrich

Yesterday, we rose very early for our flight to Uganda. We arrived in The Pearl of Africa into the arms of our adopted family here. Hugs, smiles, tears, photos, all such an amazing welcome! Kampala, Uganda sits on the equator so the weather is quite warm. More so than Rwanda.

We had a delicious lunch at Pastor Rose’s house which is very near the church. The fare was local to Uganda…mashed bananas, seasoned beef with peanut sauce, and chips (french fries) with a touch of garlic.

The church children were waiting for us at the church where we told the story of Noah and gave them a coloring activity. These kids are not the least bit shy. The little ones will just climb up in your lap and stare into your face. Most of them speak English so they are a little more bold. Many we recognized from last year, and they sure did remember us. This was a day dedicated to the children! Games were played inside and outside with lollipops for the winners. Stephen taught them to make paper airplanes and was the thrower at dodge ball. Stephen and Heidi tried jump rope, not very successfully, I might add. Pastor Rose had no problem. These kids find ways to play with homemade toys and balls. With no video games or devices, they find ways to have fun all together. The afternoon ended with 50 kids of all ages hiking to the neighborhood swimming pool, Stephen in the lead.

We had a visit from Pastor Rebecca from downtown Kampala. She enjoyed watching the kids at the pool.

Dinner was at Pastor Rose’s house with mashed potatoes, spinach, rice and more. Her cook makes the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.

It’s been a very long day so back to the hotel. I can’t wait for church tomorrow because I know the worship will be lively and Stephen is preaching. Blessings abound!
